International Day of the Midwife

MATFLIX celebrates midwives with the Maternity & Midwifery Forum


The theme for International Day of the Midwife 2020 is Midwives with women: celebrate, demonstrate, mobilise, unite – our time is NOW!


MATFLIX – video streaming from maternity experts – is joining with the Maternity & Midwifery Forum in this spirt and together presenting a full day of international video highlights and live streamed interviews and discussions with maternity leaders. From 10am to 8.30pm (BST), the day promises to be full of top presentations from past Maternity & Midwifery Festivals, reflections and studio discussions from maternity leaders and input from across the world.

International Day of the Midwife was first celebrated May 5th 1991, and has since been observed in over 50 nations around the world. The idea of having a day to recognise and honour midwives came out of the 1987 International Confederation of Midwives conference in the Netherlands.
