SERIES 5 - EP.3: Nurturing midwives and student midwives

In this third episode of Midwifery Hour series five, Sue Macdonald, Festival Chair, Midwifery Consultant and Educationalist was joined by Deepa Santhosh, Student Midwife (masters), Oxford Brookes University and Dr Sally Pezaro, Senior Lecturer – The Academic Midwife, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health | Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities, Coventry University.

In this session the panel discuss the implications of not supporting staff, and strategies to ensure that midwives (and student midwives) are able to ensure that they are keeping healthy in the workplace, and caring for themselves, and their clients.

Midwives have always been busy, and over this last year, have been, and felt, even more so. With some staff redeployed, and some off sick, sometimes midwives are having to balance their workload and ensuring safe and high quality care for mothers and babies, with their own physiological and psychological well-being, even to the extent of not being able to have a drink of water, or have a short break.

Host Sue Macdonald (Festival Chair, Midwifery Consultant and Educationalist) was joined by Deepa Santhosh (Student Midwife (masters), Oxford Brookes University) and Dr Sally Pezaro (Senior Lecturer – The Academic Midwife, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health | Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities, Coventry University).
