This weeks episode of the Midwifery Hour discussed the new All4Maternity e-learning modules ‘Learning About Culture, Race and Bias in Midwifery Practice’.
These e-learning modules were created in response to the inequalities Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse people, women, families and communities face.
They are intended for anybody who has access to Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse people, including Midwives, Students, other health professionals, lecturers and those who have babies or are expecting, to gain an understanding of how maternity care can be improved for Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse people, to support positive outcomes and to combat systemic racism and bias in maternity services.
Health professionals who have contact with pregnant people have a responsibility and duty of care to reduce mortality and morbidity of Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse people, gain an understanding about the barriers that exist to deconstruct those barriers, and make maternity care accessible and inclusive for everybody.
These modules are only an introduction to cultural safety, current issues and racial disparities. They encourage and support learners to do further education and training.
